How it works

  1. The clues are inside the grid. This is the classic Swedish style called bildkryss: each clue sits in a box, and an arrow shows where its answer goes.
  2. The picture is a clue too. Its answer is a Swedish word or phrase that says what the picture shows.
  3. Help is there if you get stuck. Check your letters, or reveal a letter or a word. What you fill in is saved on your device, so you can stop and come back later.
  4. You get a word list at the end. Every word of the puzzle with its meaning, to read through once more.

How the levels are made

The levels follow how common a word is in Swedish, counted in written texts and in film and TV subtitles. A word is kept only if it is common in both. Each level's puzzles are made from that level's words, the layouts are made by a computer program, and every clue is checked by hand.

The names A0 to B2 are borrowed from the CEFR scale, but the levels are our own estimate and not an official grading. Recalling a word from a clue is also harder than recognizing it in a text, so if a level feels too hard, try the one below. It says nothing about your Swedish.

The pictures on the boards

Each level's board has two pictures from Sweden. They are shown cropped. The photographers and the licenses the pictures are used under:
